Goat Milk Soap

Last week we went to some friends house for a tea party and a goat milk soap making party. These friends, the R Family, run the camp that my family went to back in April. The R Family are visiting their grandparents here in Arizona. My Mom and Mrs. R started the soap making process outside because lye can be dangerous, especially around the little kids. The goat milk was frozen in a zip lock bag. Mrs. R crushed it up into the bowl while Mom measured the lye.

Pouring the lye into the frozen milk.

The lye is melting the milk as Mom is stirring it in.

The milk turned a yellow color when the lye was dissolved.

Meanwhile Mrs. R’s mother, Mrs. L and my Grandma were heating up the olive oil on the stove inside. Here we are letting the oil cool a bit.

Mrs. L poured the warmed olive oil into the milk and lye mixture. She also put in some lavender essential oils.

We had to stir and mix the lye/milk/oil mixture for a long time with a hand mixer until it became very thick and the oil began tracing.

Then we spooned the thick soap into the molds.

The soap has to set for 21 days in these molds before it’s ready. We made 27 of them.

Yes, this WAS a wonderful day getting to know some special friends. We also had a tea party that day with them, they prepared lots of nice goodies for us and we had a lovely time together. Too bad we didn’t get a picture of the older girls together, they had a nice visit too.
Nice blog Abbey, spelling out the whole day and milk making process!
